, ironically enough, romney may have an advantage. he had 19 debates during the primaries. all the republican debates. the president is rusty after four years. see how that factors out. both men doing a lot of prep. >> all this dirt, dirty lawn dream was aired out for everybody to see and hear. romney during the 19 debates. >> yeah, yeah, a lot of practice for sure. all right, in california, nearly 1,000 firefighters plan an all-out assault on a fire that is still smoldering near the border with mexico. >> the blaze killed one person and burned a dozen homes. abc's brandi hitt from los angeles with more on the destructive fire season so far. brandi. >> reporter: good morning, rob and paula. a deadly and costly year battling wildfires. here in california we haven't even reached the peak of fire season yet. fast-moving flames from the wildfire have kept fire crews in southeastern san diego county on their toes for three days. >> there was just flames that came up over the top -- i couldn't believe it. i thought i was dead. >> reporter: unfortunately this fire has turned deadly. firefighters rec

to predictions -- i think this will come up in the debate. not because mitt romney will bring it up, but because he will be asked about it by one of the moderators. but the romney campaign has shown no signs of pulling back on this. i got a mail -- i live in virginia -- i got a mail at my house for my daughter, who registered to vote a week ago. it repeated all the lines in the welfare at. i think the romney campaign has found a message that it once to -- wants to keep hitting. i think that will come up in the debate. we will hear from obama. initially, we saw this in the polls, this has resonated, their traditional scare seniors about medicare tactics. that has been working really well. so i think obama will bring that up. one thing we will hear is the phrase that romney would end medicare's guarantee, which is a phrase the democrats have liked to use recently. we have raided that half-true for two reasons. one, it is not like it really has a guarantee now. congress can change the medicare benefits any time it wants to. it frequently has. now, romney would change the structure in which people w

than that -- more of that in the debates. president obama and governor romney have different views about where to take this country internationally. host: where you expecting from the speech by the iranian leader today? guest: mach mod ahmadinejad -- mahmoud ahmadinejad is a fool. er.is a israel pahat denies the holocaust. he lost most of his power. he is not the most significant leader in iran. i would expect a lot of lies about the united states. iran has very low support. they have support from hezbollah and the syrian government. most countries want nothing to do with the iranians. they have been violating their commitments on their nuclear enrichment programs. it is a program on the defensive. president obama has been doing a good job of pushing the iranians into a corner and we should continue that policy matter who wins the election and prevent them from getting a nuclear weapon. host: susan from new york. caller: good morning. their comments are very great. i have two questions, one regarding libya. one is regarding libya. the you think the al qaeda attacks and on the guy t

of the economy or foreign policy, i think he will lose. if we have a very small ball debate where the romney campaign spends two days criticizing president obama for not having the following six meetings and what about the sentences he said, obama thinks he can ride that to a narrow but clear victory. i think he's probably right. so i think the key is to mange the big -- make the bigger arguments against president obama. jon: you were a big advocate for the candidate service of paul ryan -- candidacy of paul ryan before he became mitt romney's vice presidential choice. has he brought the kind of gravitas to the ticket and some of these issues to the fore that you were hoping for? >> yeah, i think so. look, in the two-and-a-half weeks after ryan was picked, the romney/ryan ticket narrowed the gap from about four points to one point. it's opened up again to close to four points because i think at the convention and afterwards the romney campaign has lapsed into a kind of pre-ryan campaign. i think ryan's clarity about the choice ahead is helpful, his criticism of the replacement rests this mor

. the romney campaign does need to turn around. he does need the debates to go well. is there time? yes. 41 days you can turn the ship around. but he will need to articulate it pretty well. the funny part about it is the president's own deficit and debt commission recommended something similar on tax reform, bringing down all the tax rates, expanding the base and eliminating tax credits and tax loopholes. dagen: ronald reagan, he did it. and then congress messed it up. bret, it was great to talk to you as always. thank you very much. please everybody -- well i know you all watch bret at 6:00 p.m. eastern on the fox news channel every night. if you don't, well, there you have it. you know what you will see tonight and every night. thanks bret. >> thanks. connell: hillary clinton, with some comments with higher taxes on rich people around the world, not just here, everywhere. we will talk to the judge andrew napolitano and get his thoughts on that. dagen: do you want to take a look at the treasury markets too? connell: i guess. dagen: we did a whole segment on treasury yields. here you go. co

is a status quo economic model president. >> reporter: today romney kicks off a bus tour in battleground ohio. this is the last full week of campaigning, before the presidential debates begin and take over the candidates' attention. president obama was off the campaign trail in new york for the annual united nations general assembly. but he stopped by abc's "the view" with the first lady. >> i've just got a different vision about how we grow an economy. i think, barbara, you grow an economy from the middle out, not from the top down. >> today president obama and mitt romney will speak at a clinton global initiative in new york, then it's back to the campaign trail for both candidates. sunny, john, back to you. >> i thought it was fascinating about the interview was that the ladies suggested michelle obama would be a great public officer. i agree. >> she said, you know, i don't have the patience for something look that. >> she certainly knows herself. >> she certainly knows herself. her husband knows her as well. he pointed that out. >> she was not offended in the least. she said "yep, i don't
